Rafael Nadal is in a "delicate" situation ahead of the Rio Olympics, according to fellow tennis star David Ferrer. Nadal, a 14-time grand-slam champion, has been sidelined since the French Open due to a wrist injury.

The 30-year-old is Spain's flag bearer at the Games, but he remains in some doubt for the competition starting August 6. Ferrer said there was some concern over Nadal, telling Cadena SER : "I will travel with Rafa on Sunday to Rio. His situation is more delicate. It's never easy to come back after an injury. He will see how he feels."

The likes of Roger Federer and Milos Raonic have already withdrawn, the latter citing the Zika virus. Ferrer said it was disappointing to see the field weakened, but understands the players' decisions. "At the Olympics, you want to see all the players compete so it's a shame," he said.

"But our calendar is very tight and then there is the Zika issue."
