ATP Challenger: Leander Paes in doubles quarterfinals

Paes and his partner James Cerretani defeated Ariel Behar of Uruguay and Maximo Gonzalez of Argentina 7-5, 6-3 in the pre-quarterfinals of the USD 150,000 ATP Challenger at Newport Beach.

Leander Paes, seeded second with James Cerretani of the U.S., got past Ariel Behar of Uruguay and Maximo Gonzalez of Argentina 7-5, 6-3 in the doubles pre-quarterfinals of the USD 150,000 Challenger tennis tournament in Newport Beach.

Leander and his partner overcame a tough situation at 5-5, 0-40 to turn the match in their favour.

Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan, in partnership with Christopher Rungkat of Indonesia, also made the quarterfinals with 10-5 victory in the super tie-break against the American wild cards Hunter Reese and Raymond Sarmiento.

In the EUR 64,000 Challenger in France, Sriram Balaji and Vishnu Vardhan overcame third seeds to set up a semifinal against the second seeds Sander Arends of the Netherlands and Antonio Sancic of Croatia.

Manish Sureshkumar beat sixth seed Arjun Kadhe in three sets to set up a semifinal against Kuan-Yi Lee of Chinese Taipei who eased past Nitin Kumar Sinha. Arjun Kadhe made the doubles final with Lakshit Sood.

Qualifier Kanika Vaidya continued with her good run and made the quarterfinals of the USD 15,000 ITF women’s event in Egypt.
