As it happened: Australian Open, Day 10: Pliskova downs Serena to set up Osaka clash in semis

Karolina Pliskova defeats Serena Williams in three sets. She will face Naomi Osaka in the semifinals after the Japanese registered a 6-4, 6-1 win over Elina Svitolina.

  • Novak Djokovic will meet 28th seed Lucas Pouille after the Frenchman beat Milos Raonic in four sets.

 

 

  • At 1-4 into the second set, Kei Nishikori retires and Novak Djokovic is through to the semifinals.
  • What a start by Novak Djokovic. He breezes through the first set in just about half-an-hour winning 6-1. Kei Nishikori has a lot of work to do now.

  • Lucas Pouille gets the bragging rights. The Frenchman clinches a 7-6, 6-3, 6-7, 6-4 to reach his maiden Grand Slam semifinal and that has happened under Amelie Mauresmo's tutelage. 
  • Milos Raonic fights to survive. He wins the third set 7-6(2) against Lucas Pouille.
  • Two hours and the scoreboard locked at 4-4 in the third set. The Poullie-Raonic match is dishing out some good stuff!
  • Meanwhile Japan's Kei Nishikori is warming up ahead of his blockbuster quarterfinal clash with Novak Djokovic.

  • Lucas Pouille is just one set win away from a semifinal slot. He wins the second set 6-3 and takes a 2-0 lead over Milos Raonic.

  • Poullie is on fire. He has raced to a 4-1 lead in the second set.

  • Lucas Pouille wins the first set 7-6 (4) against Milos Raonic in about 52 minutes. The Frenchman has won seven of the last 10 games and bags the first set.

  • Meanwhile, in the men's quarterfinals, 16th seed Milos Raonic is up against Frenchman and 28th seed Lucas Pouille.

  • THE WAIT CONTINUES FOR SERENA WILLIAMS

    Match-point, an enticing Osaka clash in the semifinal, and step closer to 24th title... Serena Williams was on fire after dropping the first set. BUT a nasty looking ankle twist while attempting a return would soon change the course of the match. Struggling to move to her left, Serena Williams watches the match slip away against Karolina Pliskova comes back from 1-5 down to register a 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 win to enter the semifinals!

  • Karolina Pliskova ends Serena Williams' run in the Australian Open . Pliskova beats Serena 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 and books a semifinal slot and will meet Naomi Osaka for a place in the summit clash.

  • Serena Williams is not the one to give up easily. She clinches the second set with a similar margin to take the quarterfinals to the deciding set.
  • Czech Republic's Karolina Pliskova threatens to end Serena Williams' run at the Australian Open. The sixth set takes the first set 6-4.

  • In the first match of the day, Japanese star Naomi Osaka defeats Ukraine's Elina Svitolina 6-4, 6-1 to secure her place in the semifinals. The US Open champion takes just 72 minutes to complete the straight-set win.

The quarterfinal action is just underway at Melbourne.
