India's Yuki Bhambri beat Canada's Brayden Schnur 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the first round of the Australian Open qualifiers on Wednesday. Bhambri will lock horns with the winner of the match between Joao Monteiro and Carlos Taberner.

Bhambri comes to Melbourne at the back of a 6-4, 3-6, 4-6 defeat against France's Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the second round of the Tata Open Maharashtra.

Ramkumar Ramanathan trumped America's Bradley Klahn 6-7 (6), 7-6 (3), 6-2. Ramkumar will square off against unseeded Frenchman Gleb Sakharov next. Earlier, the 23-year-old, playing the Tata Open, had lost 4-6, 3-6 to the 2014 US Open champion Marin Cilic in the second round.

Meanwhile, Prajnesh Gunneswaran lost to Germany's Tobias Kamke 6-4, 1-6, 2-6.
