Victoria Azarenka has confirmed that she will play the French Open and Wimbledon after being granted permission to bring her son to Europe.

Azarenka's schedule has been limited since the birth of Leo in December 2016 due to an ongoing custody battle, the Belarusian only able to compete in four tournaments.

Her fifth is the current Madrid Open, just her third of the year, and she made a winning start with a comfortable 6-3 6-3 victory over Aleksandra Krunic.

Speaking after the win, the former world number one confirmed Madrid would be the first of five events he would be participating in – including both upcoming grand slams.

"I'm playing all the way through Wimbledon," she told reporters in the Spanish capital.

"I play Rome, I play Paris, I'm going to play Mallorca, I'm going to play Wimbledon. That's my schedule for the next couple months. It's definite.

"I found out close to the end of April that I could go. But I tried to stay focused on my training a lot more this time. I've done a little bit of better preparation overall. I'm trying to get a little bit more stability right now."

Azarenka will meet sixth seed Karolina Pliskova next in Madrid.
