Angelique Kerber's rise to world number one can serve as an inspiration to others on the women's circuit, according to Eugenie Bouchard.
Kerber's ascent to the summit of the women's game has come relatively late in her career, winning two grand slam titles since her 28th birthday on her way to usurping long-time incumbent Serena Williams.
And Bouchard, 22, says the German gives hope to players who feel their chance may never come.
"She's the player of the year this year," Colgate ambassador Bouchard told Omnisport. "She has been unbelievable.
"I think it's her persistence. Her game is very - she gets a lot of balls back, she's very physical, so it requires a lot of self-discipline and determination.
"She's not the youngest. She's not old of course, but it's happened definitely later in her career.
"So it just shows the rewards if you keep pushing that it can happen at any moment."
Andy Murray - eight months older than Kerber - is also enjoying life as world number one in the men's game for the first time.
"Him and Angie have both really dominated and come out to be the best player in the world in their own right," added Bouchard.
"We knew they were great players before but this year has been tremendous for both of them.
"I just find it so impressive with Andy how he just does it week after week. He's won multiple titles this year and he's just had that motivation to keep going.
"It's amazing to watch and I try to learn from these great ones."
