China Open: Sania-Peng pair goes down to Hingis-Chan duo in semis

After winning the first set 6-2, Sania Mirza and Shuai Peng floundered in the next two sets, losing them 1-6, 5-10, versus top seeds Yung-Jan Chan and Martina Hingis.

Top seeds Yung-Jan Chan and Martina Hingis beat Sania Mirza and her Chinese partner Shuai Peng 2-6, 6-1, 10-5 in the doubles semifinals of the China Open WTA tennis tournament in Beijing on Saturday.

The third seeded Indo-Chinese team collected 390 WTA points and $96,100.

In the $125,000 Challenger in Kaohsiung, top seeds Divij Sharan and Scott Lipsky of the US was beaten by the third seeds Jonathan Erlich and Alexander Peya in straight sets.

The Indo-US pair collected 40 ATP points and $2,700.

In the ITF women’s event in Colombo, which has been interrupted by rain, top seed Riya Bhatia made the singles quarterfinals, while compatriots Jennifer Luikham and Nidhi Chilumula were beaten in the quarterfinals.

Dhruthi Venugopal had to retire from her singles and later gave a walkover for the doubles in partnership with Riya Bhatia.
