Chinese Taipei Challenger: Ramkumar bows out in quarters

Ramkumar Ramanathan exited the Chinese Taipei Challenger after losing to South Korea's Kwon Soonwoo in the quarterfinal on Friday.

Ramkumar Ramanathan's run at the $162,480 Chinese Taipei Challenger came to an end on Friday as he suffered a 6-7(6), 3-6 loss against South Korea's Kwon Soonwoo in the quarterfinal. The last-eight show earned him 25 ATP points and $4,380.

Later, Sriram Balaji in partnership with Jonathan Erlich of Israel beat Saketh Myneni and Ramkumar in straight sets in the doubles quarterfinals. Balaji and Erlich will play top seeds Cheng-Peng Hsieh of Chinese Taipei and Christopher Rungkat of Indonesia in the semifinals.

In the ATP Tour event in Houston, Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Purav Raja went down fighting to the top seeded Bryan twins, Bob and Mike, 7-6 (5), 6-3. The all-conquering Bryans did not face a single breakpoint in the match.

Ankita Raina sailed past qualifier Sofya Lansere of Russia 6-4, 6-1 in the pre-quarterfinals of the $60,000 ITF women’s event in Turkey.
