Yuki Bhambri sustained his good form from the qualifying event in setting up a second round clash against sixth seed Gael Monfils of France in the Citi Open ATP tennis tournament in Washington.
The 25-year-old Yuki, ranked 200 in the world, led Stefan Kozlov 7-5, 2-0 when the American retired in the first round. With the win, Yuki ensured at least 30 ATP points, including 10 for qualification.
The other Indian Davis Cupper and qualifier Ramkumar Ramanathan, who had beaten Dominic Thiem on grass in Turkey, was beaten by Guido Pella of Argentina, and had to settle for 10 ATP points.
In the $125,000 Challenger in China, qualifier Sidharth Rawat progressed into the pre-quarterfinals, to ensure 13 ATP points.
In the ITF women’s tournament in Thailand, former Asian junior champion Pranjala Yadlapalli, who had to negotiate the qualifying event, sailed into the second round.
