The Indian girls outplayed Uzbekistan 3-0, dropping a mere five games, in the last league match in the Fed Cup Asia-Oceania group-1 tennis tournament in Hua Hin, Thailand, on Friday.

With four-time National champion Prerna Bhambri giving the team a rousing start beating Sabina Sharipova 6-1, 6-1, the country’s No. 1 singles player Ankita Raina sealed the issue outplaying the tall Nigna Abduraimova.

With the tie secured and the danger of relegation avoided with ease — India had lost to Japan and Thailand in the first two matches — Sania Mirza partnered Ankita to win the doubles rubber as well.

While Japan will play Chinese Taipei in the promotional match for the World Group-II play-off, India will meet Kazakhstan for the fifth place. Uzbekistan will meet Korea in the seventh place match, the loser relegated to Asia Oceania group-II.
