Ferrer happy with Australian Open campaign

Eighth seed David Ferrer departed the Australian Open happy with his performances, despite failing to make the semi-finals. Ferrer came unstuck in the last eight, trumped 6-3 6-7 (5-7) 6-2 6-3 by second seed and four-time Australian Open runner-up Andy Murray.

Eighth seed David Ferrer departed the Australian Open happy with his performances, despite failing to make the semi-finals.

Ferrer came unstuck in the last eight, trumped 6-3 6-7 (5-7) 6-2 6-3 by second seed and four-time Australian Open runner-up Andy Murray.

The 33-year-old Spaniard, who has reached 17 grand slam quarters without winning a title, fought hard and pushed Murray, but it was not enough after more than three hours on court.

However, Ferrer remained upbeat about his exploits in Melbourne, having not dropped a set prior to Wednesday's clash.

"It was a good match. There were a lot of rallies. It was tough," said Ferrer.

"In the third set, the first games, it was tough, but it was close. He was better than me and playing very aggressive with his backhand.

"And in the fourth set after I broke him [and went on to make it 2-2], I lost a little bit of concentration."

"But I made him serve to win the match. I'm happy with my tournament, my game. It was okay."
