Fognini stuns Nishikori in Miami

Italian Fabio Fognini, ranked 40th in the world, upset second seed Kei Nishikori 6-4, 6-2 in the quarterfinals of the Miami Open on Wednesday.

Italian Fabio Fognini, ranked 40th in the world, upset second seed Kei Nishikori 6-4, 6-2 in the quarterfinals of the Miami Open on Wednesday.

The 29-year-old from Sanremo was the only unseeded player in the last eight, but showed no serves as he took the game to his Japanese opponent from the outset.

Fognini will play the winner of Wednesday's other quarterfinal between Spain's Rafa Nadal and American Jack Sock.
