Former tennis player Sridhar Bhabalia dies of cardiac arrest

Sridhar Bhabalia, a former state tennis player who belonged to the first batch of the famous Britannia Amritraj Tennis (BAT) Academy, died of cardiac arrest at his Mumbai residence on Thursday (January 28). He was 44.

Sridhar Bhabalia, a former Maharashtra State tennis player who belonged to the first batch of the famous Britannia Amritraj Tennis (BAT) Academy, died of cardiac arrest at his Mumbai residence on Thursday (January 28). He was 44.

Bhabalia was part of the BAT’s inaugural batch, that included Gaurav Natekar, Rohit Rajpal, Jay Merchant, Rafi Farooqui, K.P.Balaraj, Benush Venugopal, Prashant Shetty. He was considered to be a bright prospect after featuring in India top eight in juniors but moved on to his family business soon afterwards. .

“It is shocking to hear about such sad news,” said Nitin Kirtane, a former national champion. “He was two-three seniors to me. A very nice guy and a brilliant all-round tennis player. I used to revel in his company during our younger days.”
