French Open updates: Djokovic, Wozniacki advance before rain plays spoilsport

11.30 pm: And it is a wrap. Rain plays spoil-sport. We will have no more play today. Thank you for tuning in. See you tomorrow. Good night!

10:42 pm: PLAY SUSPENDED. The rain is coming down hard and the players have been asked to vacate the court.

10:27 pm: Another French player seems to be in trouble as Karen Khachanov takes the second set 7-5 against Lucas Pouille. Puoille is two sets down.

10:20 pm: David Goffin takes the second set 6-3 and levels the score with Gael Monfils.

10:05 pm: Dominic Thiem clinches his third round tie 6-3, 6-7, 6-3, 6-2 against Matteo Berrettini. He advances to the fourth round where he will face 19th seed Kei Nishikori.

9:57 pm: Gael Monfils, the 32nd seed, has taken the first set against David Goffin 7-6. Goffin looks set to make the scores level, though; he leads 3-0 in the second set.

9:30 pm: The Williams sisters move into the third round in women's doubles, defeating Sara Errani and Kirsten Flipkens.

9:21 pm: Marco Cecchinato knocks Carreno Busta out of French Open, defeating him in four sets 2-6, 7-6, 6-3, 6-1.

9:20 pm: Karen Khachanov has clinched the first set, in his third-round match against France's Lucas Pouille.

9:10 pm: 10th seed Pablo Carreno Busta is on the verge of defeat. In his third round match against Marco Cecchinato, he trails by two sets to one and is a break down in the fourth.

9:00: Seventh seed Dominic Thiem is facing a challenge from Matteo Berettini. The latter has clinched the second set to level the scores, in their third-round men's singles encounter.

8:16 pm: Djokovic and Wozniacki move into the fourth round with contrasting wins.

Djokovic defeats Bautista-Agut 6-4, 6-7, 7-6, 6-2 in three hours and 48 minutes. On the other hand, Wozniacki took an hour and 18 minutes to beat Parmentier 6-0, 6-3.

8:05 pm: Divij Sharan and Shuko Aoyama crash out in the first round of mixed doubles, going down to Katarina Srebotnik and Santiago Gonzalez 6-2, 3-6, 10-5.

7:37 pm: Djokovic clinches the third set tiebreaker, leading Bautista-Agut by two sets to one.

7:30 pm: Caroline Wozniacki takes the first set 6-0 against Pauline Parmentier.

Elina Svitolina is knocked out! Buzarnescu wins 6-3, 7-5 to book her place in the fourth round.

6:52 pm: Czech Republic's Barbora Strycova, the 26th seed, defeats compatriot Katerina Siniakova 6-2, 6-3 to move into the fourth in women's singles.

6:46: Japan's Nishikori completes a clinical win over Gilles Simon - 6-3, 6-1, 6-3.

6:40 pm: At the end of a marathon contest, Zverev overcomes a tough opponent in Dzumhur to reach the fourth round . He won 6-2, 3-6, 4-6, 7-6, 7-5 after three hours and 54 minutes of battle.

6:34 pm: Nishikori, the 19th seed, is one game away from a spot in the fourth round. He leads 5-3 in the third set.

6:30 pm: Zverev survives a match point , makes it 5-5 in the fifth set against Dzumhur.

Meanwhile, Bautista-Agut wins the second set tie-break 8-6.

6:27 pm: Ukraine's Elina Svitolina, the fourth seed, trails in her contest against Mihaela Buzarnescu. She goes down 6-3 in her first set; the players are on serve in the second set (Buzarnescu leading 3-2).

6:20 pm: The contest between Zverev and Dzumhur is going down to the wire. They're 4-4 in the fifth set.

Bautista-Agut and Djokovic are in the middle of a tie-breaker in the second set, Djokovic having claimed the first.

6:10 pm: Kei Nishikori has taken the second set 6-1; the players are on serve in the third, having claimed two games each.

Bopanna and Babos go down in the second set, too, crashing out of the tourney . Shuai Zhang and John Peers 6-2, 6-3.

5:43 pm: Rohan Bopanna and Timea Babos have lost the first set in their first-round match in the mixed doubles category. They go down 6-2 to Shuai Zhang and John Peers.

5:38 pm: Nishikori is 2-0 up in the second set, having taken the first set 6-3 against Gilles Simon.

5:36 pm:Zverev bounces back! Takes the match to the fifth set after clinching the tie-breaker in the fourth - 7-3.

5:26 pm: Dzumhur takes a 6-5 lead in the fourth set, he's one game away a fourth-round spot.

5:10 pm: Novak Djokovic has taken the first set (6-4) against Spain's Roberto Baustista Agut.

Zverev and Dzumhur go neck-and-neck in the fourth set, they're tied 5-5, Dzhumur leading by two sets to one.

5:10pm: Dimitrov, the fourth seed, crashes out of French Open! He goes down to Fernando Verdasco 6-6, 6-2, 6-4.

5:03pm: Dimitrov, the fourth seed, is serving to stay in the competition. Verdasco, having taken two sets already, is 5-4 up in the third.

4:54pm:Top guns faltering! Grigor Dimitrov is two games away from exit; he's lost the first two sets and is 4-3 down in the third, against 30th seed Fernando Verdasco.

Zverev is two sets to one down against 26th seed Damir Dzhumur and is down 3-2 in the fourth set.

4:33pm:D. Kasatkina after losing the second set, bounces back in the third to see off M. Sakkari.

4:16pm: Madison Keys is through to the next round after beating Naomi Osaka of Japan 6-1, 7-6.

 

3:50pm: M. Sakkari after conceding the first set, breaks back to take the second 6-1 against Kasatkina. In men's singles, Verdasco has taken the first set against Dimitrov while in another match, A. Zverev has lost the second set to Dzumhur.

3:11pm: In the men's singles, two matches in round three has got underway, with Dimitrov taking on Verdasco and A. Zverev up against D. Dzumhur.

Meanwhile in the women's singles, Madison Keys is one set up against Naomi Osaka and in another match D. Kasatkina too is one set up vs M. Sakkari.

In the men's singles, Rafael Nadal, Juan Martin del Potro and John Isner were among those who progressed to the third round with convincing wins on day five. ( REPORT )
