Muguruza on Kuznetsova: I got to earn the match with her

Garbine Muguruza beat Angelique Kerber 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 at the end of two hours and 20 minutes to progress to the Wimbledon quarterfinals.

"Every match that I play against Kerber is like that. I remember two years ago when we played here, was a quite similar match," Muguruza said after beating the German, who will now relinquish her world No. 1 status.

About Wimbledon shunting top women players onto the outside courts, Muguruza said, "I don't want to talk really about that. I think they decided who is more convenient. Of course, I was looking at the matches today. Honestly, every match is very, very good. I don't know. If they decided that, I'm happy with that."

"I don't want to make any problem. I'm so focused on what I do, I don't care if I played on 13, 1, 5. Okay, 2 is my court. Probably maybe I was expecting another court. But after looking at the matches, I'm like, Well, that's it," she added.

World No. 1 Andy Murray and Swiss legend Roger Federer's matches were put on the Centre Court, with Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic on Court One on the second Monday.

However, All England Club chief Executive Richard Lewis defended the move saying, "We absolutely respect that Angelique is No. 1 in the world, Muguruza is a former finalist, a Grand Slam winner. It was a tough decision. But we are spoilt for choice. There are matches on Courts Two and Three today that would grace Centre on any other day."

Meanwhile, Muguruza will lock horns  with Svetlana Kuznetsova in the last eight showdown. "I look forward for the match. We played this year at the beginning. All the matches that I play against her, they're tough. We practice a lot of times in Spain together," the Spaniard said adding that she expects a difficult match.

Speaking of the technical similarities between her and Kuznetsova, Muguruza said, "She has kind of a Spanish style. I don't know. But I like the way she plays. She's very talented and (has) very nice shots. I got to go for it."

"I got to earn the match with her, " she added.
