Richard Gasquet edged Inigo Cervantes to make the quarterfinals of European Open.

Richard Gasquet defeated Inigo Cervantes as the third seed progressed to the quarterfinals of the maiden European Open.

The Frenchman set the tone by breaking to love in the first game before wrapping up a 6-2, 6-4 victory in an hour and 15 minutes.

Fourth seed Pablo Cuevas booked his spot in the last eight with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) triumph over Jozef Kovalik in Antwerp.

Also through to the quarters is Andreas Seppi, who beat Robin Haase 7-5, 7-5.

The remainder of Wednesday's matches were first-round ties, which saw wins for Gilles Simon, Taylor Fritz and Steve Darcis.
