Kyle Edmund again delivered in Andy Murray's absence to send defending champion Great Britain into the semi-finals of the Davis Cup with victory over Serbia.

World number two Murray, the driving force behind Britain's success in 2015, opted to sit out his country's last-eight tie following a gruelling period on the ATP World Tour that culminated in him winning a second Wimbledon title last week. Yet Edmund ensured Murray was not missed, following up his opening-day win over Janko Tipsarevic with another straight-sets triumph against Dusan Lajovic.

The 21-year-old's 6-3 6-4 7-6 (7-5) success earned an unassailable lead for Great Britain, which will now face Argentina - semi-finalist for the 11th time in 15 years.

Tipsarevic beat James Ward in the remaining rubber, with Serbia already eliminated.

Croatia completed its stunning comeback against the United States, winning the tie 3-2. Ivan Dodig and Marin Cilic upset Bryan brothers Bob and Mike on Saturday before the latter helped complete the job a day later. Cilic cruised past John Isner 7-6 (11-9) 6-3 6-4 before 19-year-old Borna Coric beat Jack Sock 6-4 3-6 6-3 6-4.

Federico Delbonis was Argentina's hero on Sunday, beating Italy's Fabio Fognini 6-4 7-5 3-6 7-5 to wrap up the tie.

France also clinched victory over the Czech Republic in the fourth singles rubber, as Jo-Wilfried Tsonga came from a set down to beat Jiri Vesely in four.
