Top seed Alize Cornet will need to produce a comeback to stay in the Guangzhou Open after losing the first set to Jennifer Brady before bad weather delayed their first-round match.
Cornet, playing in the first match since her US Open opening-round loss - when she was controversially given a code violation for removing her top after putting it on the wrong way around, was trailing 6-0, 2-1 when rain brought a halt to proceedings.

Ana Bogdan's clash with Christina McHale was also suspended with the former leading 4-2. Former Wimbledon finalist Sabine Lisicki beat veteran Vera Zvonareva 6-4 6-2, claiming her first WTA win of another injury hit year since February to set up a tie with Yulia Putintseva, who overcame Sara Sorribes Tormo.
There were also wins for Vera Lapko, Fiona Ferro and Bernarda Pera.

At the Korea Open third seed Maria Sakkari eased to a 6-0, 6-1 success against Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in just 62 minutes.
Stefanie Voegele battled past Choi Ji-hee and Tamara Zidansek got the better of Polona Hercog.
