Leander Paes in partnership with Adil Shamasdin of Canada won the doubles title in the € 127,000 Challenger tennis tournament on grass in Britain on Saturday.
The top-seeded Indo-Canadian pair bounced back from a slow start to beat the British wild cards Brydan Klein and Joe Salisbury 2-6, 6-2, 10-8.
The title was worth €7870 and 110 ATP points, while the runners-up collected €4570 and 65 ATP points.
It was the third Challenger doubles title of the season for the 44-year-old Paes, ranked 62nd in the world, and second with Shamasdin following the one in Leon. Interestingly, that title in Leon was on hard courts, the one in Tallahassee with Scottt Lipsky was on clay, before the current one on grass, expressing the versatility of the former world No.1 doubles star.
In the ITF men’s Futures in Hong Kong, Karunuday Singh bagged the doubles title in partnership with Francis Casey Alcantara of Philippines, with a 11-9 victory in the super tie-break against the
Japanese pair of Tomohiro Masabayashi and Yuki Mochizuki.
It was the second doubles title of the season and fifth of his career for the 26-year-old Karunuday, who has also won three singles titles in the professional circuit.
