The 22-year-old Ramkumar dropped his serve thrice in the match that lasted an hour and 40 minutes, but converted five of 11 breakpoints to win in straight sets.

In the semifinals, Ramkumar will be challenged by the unseeded Tommy Paul of the US, who has not dropped a set in three matches.

In the ITF women’s event in China, 19-year-old Karman Kaur Thandi beat the second seed Liu Fangzhou 6-4, 7-6(4) in the quarterfinals.
