The top three seeds at the $15,000 ITF Futures event, Prajnesh Gunneswaran, Sriram Balaji and Vishnu Vardhan respectively, found safe passages into the last-16 following straight set wins at the KSLTA Stadium here on Tuesday.

If Prajnesh, fresh after his fifth singles title last week in Bhilai, made short work of German Haenle Pirmin’s challenge winning 6-3, 7-6 (1), Balaji was stretched by V.M. Ranjeet before emerging victorious 7-6 (2), 7-5.

Balaji had an early break in the first set and even served for it at 5-3. But the break back to love, which included a double fault on break point, snapped the wind out of his sails. Ranjeet though after taking the set to the tie-break, won only two points. Ranjeet stayed with Balaji for ten games in the second set before his resistance ended with a break in the 11th game and Balaji served the match out in the subsequently.

Also, Karnataka’s Suraj Prabodh, who was presented with a wild card, made full use of it, by scripting a 6-2 , 6-4 victory over Kunal Anand.
