Vijay Kannan wins TS Santhanam Memorial

Vijay and Vinod Sridhar paired up to clinch the 35+ doubles title as well. The duo beat Himanshu Shankar and Vijay Kumar fairly easy in straight sets 6-0, 6-2.

Vijay Kannan beat Vinod Sridhar 6-4, 6-3 in the final to emerge the singles champion in the 35+ category of the T.S. Santhanam Memorial all-India National veterans’ tennis championship at the Mylapore Club here on Saturday.

Vijay and Vinod paired up to clinch the 35+ doubles title as well. The duo beat Himanshu Shankar and Vijay Kumar fairly easy in straight sets 6-0, 6-2.

Two matches went into the third set, and one of them seemed the toughest of all. The doubles final in the 45+ category that pitted Cadar Rameez Samad and Rajesh Ganapathy against Kerala’s R. Nagaraj and Jagdish Tanwar of Rajasthan. Cadar and Rajesh prevailed 6-7(5), 7-5, 11-9.

Ram Santhanam, President, Mylapore Club, was the chief guest. Also present, was Viji Santhanam.
