Jeevan gets past top seeds in Dallas Challenger doubles

It was a welcome to return to good form for Jeevan who had won the Chennai Open ATP Tour title with Rohan Bopanna. He had lost the first round of a Challenger last week in the US.

Jeevan Nedunechezhiyan combined nicely with Christopher Rungkat to beat the top seeds Julio Peralta and Rajeev Ram in the doubles pre-quarterfinal of the $125,000 men’s Challenger tennis tournament in the US.

It may be recalled that Rajeev Ram had won the mixed doubles silver in the Rio Olympics with Venus Williams, beating Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna in the semifinal.

It was a welcome to return to good form for Jeevan who had won the Chennai Open ATP Tour title with Rohan Bopanna. He had lost the first round of a Challenger last week in the US.

The Indian doubles success got better as the Sood twins, Chandril and Lakshit, survived two matchpoints to beat the top seeds Karim-Mohamed Maamoun of Egypt and Ilija Vucic of Serbia 7-6(4), 1-6, 13-11.

The Sood brothers recovered from being down 5-8 in the super tie-break to turn the table on the No.1 seeds. In the $25,000 event in Kazakhstan, Vijay Sundar Prashanth progressed both in singles and doubles

$25,000 ITF men, Aktobe, Kazakhstan Singles (first round): Vijay Sundar Prashanth bt Denis Yevseyev (Kaz) 7-6(3), 6-2; Timur Khabibulin (Kaz) bt Sasi Kumar Mukund 6-4, 6-4.

Doubles (pre-quarterfinal): Denis Matsukevitch (Rus) & Vijay Sundar Prashanth bt Grigoriy Lomakin & Timur Maulenov (Kaz) 7-5, 6-1.

$15,000 ITF men, Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt Qualifying singles (third and final round): Keisuke Numajri (Jpn) bt Lakshit Sood 7-5, 6-2; Second round: Dmytro Badanov (Ukr) bt Chandril Sood 6-0, 6-2.

Doubles (pre-quarterfinal): Chandril Sood & Lakshit Sood bt Karim-Mohamed Maamoun (Egy) & Ilija Vucic (Srb) 7-6(4), 1-6, 13-11.
