Khelo India Youth Games: Kaavya records 1st win over Humera, in straight sets

This was Kaavya Sawhney's first victory over Humera Shaik in the four meetings between them.

Kaavya Sawhney, who knocked out second seed Humera Shaik in women's tennis in the Khelo India Youth Games in Pune on Tuesday.

Kaavya Sawhney knocked out second seed Humera Shaik 6-3, 6-2 in the women’s under-21 first round of tennis in the Khelo India Youth Games in Pune on Tuesday.

It was the first victory for Kaavya over Humera, in four meetings.

"I didn’t expect to win. I just wanted to enjoy my tennis. It proved good’’, said Kaavya, who trains in Chandigarh.

National champion Mahak Jain fought her way past Vaidehi Chaudhari, saving a bunch of set points from being down 3-5 to win 7-5, 6-3. She will face Zeel Desai who was sharp in taming the free stroking Shrivalli Rashmikaa Bhamidipaty.

In the men’s under-17 event, top seed Sushant Dabas fought his way back after losing the first set to beat Krishan Hooda. He will play Aryaan Bhatia who subdued Ajay Malik in straight sets.
