Leander and Purav reach quarterfinals

Leander Paes and Purav Raja got past Geoffrey Blancaneaus and Constant Lestienne of France 6-2, 6-4 in the doubles pre-quarterfinals of the €106,000 Challenger tennis tournament in France.

Third-seeded Leander Paes and Purav Raja got past Geoffrey Blancaneaus and Constant Lestienne of France 6-2, 6-4 in the doubles pre-quarterfinals of the €106,000 Challenger tennis tournament in France on Tuesday.

In the $50,000 Challenger in Vietnam, Yuki Bhambri beat Jose Statham of New Zealand for the loss of five games in the first round.

In another first round encounter, Davis Cupper Sumit Nagal went down fighting to the former world No.8 Mikhail Youzhny in two hours and 12 minutes. The 35-year-old Russian, ranked 101 now, won 6-1, 6-7(5), 6-4, by saving 16 of 17 breakpoints in the match.

In doubles, Saketh Myneni and Vijay Sundar Prashanth started well by beating fourth seeds Peter Polansky of Canada and Akira Santillan of Australia 10-8 in the super tie-break after having lost the first set tie-break.

National champion Dalwinder Singh was beaten in the first round of the $15,000 ITF men’s Futures in Malaysia.
