Nick Kyrgios upset Milos Raonic in the Miami Open quarterfinals as Kei Nishikori survived a huge scare against Gael Monfils. Australian Kyrgios proved too good for Raonic in a straight-sets win on Thursday, reaching his maiden ATP 1000 semifinal. He will face Nishikori, who was pushed and had to save match points to get past Monfils in three sets.

KYRGIOS, NISHIKORI THROUGH

Kyrgios made it back-to-back wins over Raonic, claiming a 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) victory in their quarterfinal. The Australian served eight aces and Raonic was unable to break, wasting all five of his chances to do so. It was far different for Nishikori, who saved five match points before edging past Monfils 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-3).

The Japanese sixth seed came from 0-40 down when serving to stay in the match in the third set before advancing.

KYRGIOS, RAONIC MOSTLY EVEN

The clash between Kyrgios and Raonic was mostly even, with the pair finishing with 26 unforced errors apiece. Kyrgios had one more winner (26-25). The win continued the 20-year-old's excellent tournament, one at which he is yet to drop a set.

Monfils served 14 aces against Nishikori, but he was punished after failing to take his match-point opportunities.

MONFILS: NISHIKORI TOO GOOD

"At 3-4 I really raised my level. I started to be very aggressive, started to go for it, and still had the strong feeling that I could make it," Monfils said. "At the end, I pushed very hard and definitely had an opportunity to close it out, but Kei fought well. In the tie-break he was just better than me."

SEMI-FINAL ON FRIDAY

World number one Novak Djokovic and Belgian David Goffin meet in the day's first semifinal. That clash will be followed by Kyrgios taking on Nishikori for the second time.
