Garbine Muguruza has celebrated her impending elevation to the World No. 1 spot with a show of patriotism alongside compatriot Rafael Nadal.
Muguruza will rise to the summit on Monday despite being knocked out of the US Open in the fourth round, and posted a picture on Twitter of her and the men's World No. 1 proudly holding the Spanish flag.
Alongside the picture, Muguruza tweeted: "Very proud to share such a special moment for our country with @RafaelNadal, the best role model #1s."
This year's Wimbledon champion rises to the top spot after Karolina Pliskova was knocked out in the quarterfinals at Flushing Meadows by Coco Vandeweghe.
It's the first time that Muguruza will have held the top spot, and she said: "I'd never be in this position without the help of my family, my team and my fans and like I said before, it's a dream come true.
"Hopefully I can keep this up as long as possible."
