Murray targets World No. 1 ranking

While Murray is still a long way behind the top-ranked Djokovic in the rankings, the Wimbledon champion is eyeing number one. "It's something I spoke to my team about, something I chatted to Ivan [Lendl, coach] about," the 29-year-old said.

Andy Murray hopes to be World No. 1 by the end of the year.

Andy Murray has set his sights on overtaking Novak Djokovic as World No. 1 after claiming the Wimbledon title.

The Briton clinched his third Grand Slam crown with a straight-sets win over Milos Raonic in the final at the All England Club on Sunday.

While he is still a long way behind the top-ranked Djokovic in the rankings, Murray is eyeing number one. "It's something I spoke to my team about, something I chatted to Ivan [Lendl, coach] about," the 29-year-old said.

"I would love to get to number one, for sure, and the way to do that is to show up every week and be focused on that event.

"Before, sometimes maybe a couple of weeks before the U.S. Open, my mind was already in New York. I wasn't thinking about that week, maybe in Cincinnati or something like that.

"I was distracted by the major event that was coming up because that was what really motivated me. Now I feel quite different about that throughout the year."

Djokovic fell in the third round in London for his earliest exit at a major since the 2009 French Open. Murray is still targeting improvement, saying there was no forgetting just what kind of form the Serbian was in.

"Novak is not just going to go away just because he has had one bad tournament," he said.

"You can't forget what he has done in the last 18 months or so. It has been incredible.

"This has been a great tournament for me, but if I want to win a few slams over the next few years I am going to have to get better.

"I know that he will come back strong from this because of the player he is."
