Newly-wed Fognini makes winning Boodles start

Fabio Fognini gave himself a late wedding present by beating John Isner, and Juan Martin del Potro was among the other winners on day one at The Boodles.

The Italian tied the knot with US Open champion Flavia Pennetta this month and started his grass-court season just a week before Wimbledon begins by seeing off Isner 6-0, 2-6, 10-5.

Argentina's Del Potro, who opted to skip the French Open in order to concentrate on his campaign on grass, was a 6-2, 6-3 winner against Borna Coric in the glamorous exhibition tournament at Stoke Park.

Janko Tipsarevic also made a victorious start in Buckinghamshire on Tuesday, getting the better of Nicolas Almagro 6-2 7-6 (8-6) in an event which attracts the well-heeled.

There was also success for Viktor Troicki in the final match of four, overcoming Jeremy Chardy 7-5 6-4.

World number one Novak Djokovic will also be in action this week in an event that finishes on Saturday.
