The first slam of 2018 is over, with Roger Federer and Caroline Wozniacki tasting glory at the Australian Open.
The two champions enjoyed contrasting victories at Melbourne Park - one lifting a major title for the 20th time while the other revelled in a maiden grand-slam success.
Federer continues to defy Father Time and, at the age of 36, looks as good as ever while Wozniacki - a comparative spring chicken at 27 - can perhaps take inspiration from the Swiss, not to mention 2017 winner Serena Williams, who is also nearer 40 than 30.

20/20 VISION FOR FEDERER
20 - Federer is the first male tennis player to win 20 grand slam singles titles.
30 - He has reached 30 major finals, including seven at Melbourne. No man has made more, either overall or at the Australian Open, in the open era.
6 - The Swiss has tied Novak Djokovic for most Australian Open titles in the open era.
14 - Federer has made at least one grand slam final in 14 of his last 16 seasons. He only failed to do so in 2013 and 2016.
WIN NUMBER ONE FOR WOZNIACKI
1 - Wozniacki won her first grand slam, thanks to a three-set victory over Simona Halep.
6 - The 2018 Australian Open is the sixth consecutive women's singles slam with a different champion (Angelique Kerber, Serena Williams, Jelena Ostapenko, Garbine Muguruza, Sloane Stephens and Wozniacki).
38 - This was the first Australian Open final in which both players competed for their maiden grand slam title since Hana Mandlikova defeated Wendy Turnbull in 1980.
1 - Wozniacki is now the number one ranked player, the last time she was atop the standings was January 2012.
LOPEZ CLOSES IN ON FEDERER RECORD
1 - Hyeon Chung became the first South Korean player to reach a grand slam semi-final.
58 - Chung became the lowest-ranked man to make the Australian Open semi-finals since Marat Safin in 2004 (86th).
64 - Feliciano Lopez has played 64 grand slams in a row. He needs only one more to equal Federer's record (65, between Australian Open 2000 and Australian Open 2016).
20 - Tennys Sandgren is the first player since Nicolas Escude in 1998 to reach the Australian Open quarter-finals on his main-draw debut.
HALEP'S HOODOO AND PLISKOVA'S PEDIGREE
3 - Simona Halep has lost each grand slam final that she has played in her career.
6 - Karolina Pliskova has reached at least the quarter-finals in six of her last seven appearances in grand slam tournaments (only failing to do so at Wimbledon in 2017).
3 - Maria Sharapova was eliminated in the third round, her worst performance at Melbourne Park since 2010 (first round).
8 - Garbine Muguruza has lost eight of her 15 matches (W7, 46 per cent) since she moved to the top of the WTA rankings in September 2017.
