Prajnesh Gunneswaran in irrepressible form

Davis Cupper Prajnesh Gunneswaran was in irrepressible form as he outclassed Yecong He of China 6-1, 6-0 in the pre-quarterfinal of the $25,000 ITF men’s tennis tournament in China on Wednesday.

Compatriot Karunuday Singh joined Prajnesh into the singles quarterfinals but fell 8-10 in the super tie-break of the doubles quarterfinal in partnership with Aooran Wang of China.

In the Challenger in Italy, Ramkumar Ramanathan lost 9-11 in the doubles pre-quarterfinal with Aldin Setkic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the super tie-break to the third seeds Marin Draganja and Tomislav Draganja of Croatia. He will play the singles pre-quarterfinal against seventh seed Salvatore Caruso of Italy.

In Colombo, Sumit Nagal cruised into the quarterfinals, and was followed by Sidharth Rawat and VM Ranjeet while Asian junior champion Nitin Kumar Sinha and Manish Sureshkumar lost in the second round.

Nitin Kumar Sinha did well to make the doubles semifinals in partnership with Abhinav Sanjeev Shanmugam.

In the ITF women’s event in Egypt, Sri Vaishnavi Peddi Reddy and Pranjala Yadlapalli knocked out the top seeds Jacqueline Cabaj Awad of Sweden and Ekaterina Yashina of Russia 6-3, 6-3 in the doubles pre-quarterfinals.
