India's Prajnesh Gunneswaran lost 6-3, 6-4 to Elias Ymer in the third round of the French Open qualifiers to end his chances at making his first Grand Slam main draw appearance.
Ymer was at the top of his game throughout and didn't give any opening for Prajnesh to stage a comeback.
In the first set, Ymer dished nine winners and combined with a plethora of unforced errors by Prajnesh (15), it was easy for Ymer to wrap up the first set 6-3.
The second set mirrored the first as Prajnesh committed 22 unforced errors and couldn't crawl back from the gaffe.
“I played very passive. I don’t know why? I had too many chances but did not convert. should have converted and created more,” a dejected Prajnesh told PTI .
“I didn’t play aggressive enough and it cost me the match. I took just one of the nine breakpoints. It’s difficult to win with such statistics. At this level, I have to be realistic,” the 28-year-old from Chennai said.
This is the southpaw's best performance in a Grand Slam. Yuki Bhambri now remains the lone Indian in the main draw.
