With advocate Surinder Goel as the Returning Officer, and with Dr. Rajiv Sareen of the Sports Authority of India and with Rakesh Gupta, the joint secretary of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) as the observers, Ms. Mahajan was elected unopposed for the period till 2020. The 62-year-old Mahajan had been appointed as the interim president on December 1, following the norms of the constitution of the AITA, after Anil Khanna had declined to continue as the president. Anil Khanna who was made the 'life president' in the last meeting also attended the Special General Meeting. Praveen Mahajan is currently serving as a member of the Central Administrative Tribunal in Jodhpur. She was formerly the Chairperson of the Central Board of Excise and Customs.
