Pro Tennis League: Vijay guides Mohun's Aces into semifinals

With its second win, after the thumping 4-1 victory over Court Kings on the opening day, Mohun’s Aces ensured a semifinal berth.

Vijay Sundar Prashanth was in vibrant form as he guided Mohun’s Aces to a 3-2 victory over Sankara Aces in a group-A league match of the Pro Tennis League at the RK Khanna Stadium Complex on Wednesday.

Vijay outplayed Sidharth Rawat 6-1 in the third rubber that fetched a 3-0 lead for Mohun’s Aces. He had earlier partnered Ashutosh Singh to bounce back from being down 1-4, to win the eventual tie-break 10-5 against Tushar Jagota and Sidharth Rawat.

Karan Srivastava had earlier given a robust start for the team by beating Dipin Wadhwa 6-3. Thereafter, Mohun’s aces took the pedal off the accelerator and gave chances for other players, including the owners.

Tennis Fanatics also recorded its second victory in the group, thanks to a resurgence triggered by Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan.

After the team had lost the first two matches, winning a mere three games in all, Jeevan turned the match on its head, first by winning the singles against Vishnu Vardhan 6-3, and later partnerhing Kamlesh Shukla to win the decisive fifth rubber.

VM Ranjeet and Kabir Hans had sustained the recovery by blanking Tushar Liberhan and Vipin Sirpaul in the fourth rubber.

In the other group, Stag Babolat Yoddhas beat Surya Warriors thanks to the key doubles victory by Vihsaal Uppal and Mayur Vasant in the second rubber, after Madhwin Kamath had beaten Rohan Mehra.

Sriram Balaji did beat Saketh Myneni to keep Surya Warriors in the race, but Saketh in partnership with Vishaal Uppal clinched the fourth rubber to ensure victory for Yoddhas.

With one win and one loss, Yoddhas will have everything to play for, when it takes on Raisoni Achievers on Thursday.
