India’s Purav Raja and Divij Sharan made the doubles quarterfinals with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Alex Bolt and Andrew Whittington of Australia in the USD 600,345 Hall of Fame ATP event in Newport. Leander Paes, seeded third in partnership with Sam Groth of Australia, also made the doubles quarterfinals.

Fourth seeds Purav Raja and Divij Sharan made the doubles quarterfinals with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Alex Bolt and Andrew Whittington of Australia in the USD 600,345 Hall of Fame ATP event in Newport. Leander Paes, seeded third in partnership with Sam Groth of Australia, also made the doubles quarterfinals, with a win in straight sets.

In the USD 125,000 Challenger in Astana, Saketh Myneni, seeded third with Alexander Kudryavtsev, was beaten in the pre-quarterfinals of doubles 10-3 in the super tie-break, by a French-Czech pair. In the USD 75,000 Challenger in Canada, Yuki Bhambri in partnership with Yasutaka Uchiyama of Japan put out the second seeds Luke Bambridge of Britain and David O’Hare of Ireland, for the loss of six games in the doubles pre-quarterfinals.

In singles, Yuki was scheduled to play third seed Blaz Kavcic of Slovenia in the pre-quarterfinals.

Among Indian women, Ankita Raina fought her way past Anastasia Gasanova of Russia 4-6,6-3, 6-4 in the pre-quarterfinals of the USD 60,000 ITF women's tennis tournament in Turkey on Wednesday. In a battle of wits that lasted two hours and 20 minutes, Ankita broke the Russian's serve eight times.

In the quarterfinals, Ankita will challenge the third seed Dejana Ladanovic of Serbia. There was more good news for Indian women's tennis, from the USD 250,000 WTA event in Bucharest. Prarthana Thombare in partnership with Jessica Moore of Australia made the doubles quarterfinals, by beating Nicoleta Dascalu of Romania and Isabella Shinikova of Bulgaria. Prarthana and partner will play the top seeds Irina-Camelia Begu and Raluca Olaru of Romania in the quarterfinals.

In a Challenger in Poland, Sriram Balaji and Vijay Sundar Prashanth fell to the second seeds in straight sets in the doubles pre-quarterfinals. In the ITF men’s Futures in Portugal, Adil Kalyanpur could not capitalise on the chance as a lucky loser in singles, after he had lost the final qualifying round by missing seven matchpoints, but made the doubles quarterfinals.

In the ITF women’s circuit, Dhruthi Venugopal made the quarterfinals in Thailand, while Rutuja Bhosale and Riya Bhatia made the second round in Egypt and Romania respectively.
