Ramkumar Ramanathan was beaten by wild card Marcelo Arevalo of Estonia 6-2, 3-6, 7-6(1) in the first qualifying round of the $651,215 ATP tennis tournament in the US.

Ramkumar has signed to play the doubles main draw, as a wild card in partnership with Tim Smyczek of the US.

In the Challenger in Bangkok, Saketh Myneni beat the former Asian junior champion Tsung-Hua Yang of Chinese Taipei 6-3, 7-5 in the first round.

In the $2,828,000 WTA event in Dubai, Prarthana Thombare made the doubles draw as an alertnate with Eva Wacano of the Netherlands, but the duo got beaten 6-2, 6-2 by the Taipei pair of Hao-Ching Chan and Latisha Chan in the first round. The Indo-Dutch team collected one WTA point and $4,695.
