Ana Ivanovic will not play against this season due to a wrist injury and the former world number will also undergo toe surgery.
The 28-year-old Serb ruled out retiring after she was dumped out of the US Open by the unseeded Denisa Allertova last week.
Ivanovic also failed to make it into the second round at Wimbledon before suffering defeats in the first round of the Olympics and the Western & Southern Open.
The 2008 French Open champion, who has slipped to 31st in the world rankings, has opted to cut short her campaign in an attempt to turn her fortunes around in 2017.
She revealed in a statement posted on Twitter: "Unfortunately, due to my recurring wrist injury, I have been advised by my doctor to take some time off the court in order to recover and regain my full strength.
"I have also been delaying surgery on my toe, which I broke at the Australian Open in January last year, and that is something that I will need to take care of in the upcoming weeks.
"As a result I am very sad to say that I will not be able to continue the season and play in Asia.
"I will miss competing in some of my favourite tournaments in Japan and China this year. I had to make this difficult decision so that I can fully recover and play injury-free next year."
