Surbiton ITF women's event: Ankita Raina loses in first round

Ramkumar Ramanathan had a mixed in the €137,560 Challenger on grass in Surbiton, Britain, as he lost the singles in three sets to Matthias Bachinger of Germany, but won the doubles pre-quarterfinals in partnership with Soonwoo Kwon of Korea in straight sets against compatriots Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Purav Raja.

In the $100,000 ITF women’s event in Surbiton, Ankita Raina was beaten 6-3, 6-3 by wild card Katy Dunne of Britain in the first round. Raina recorded the best singles victory of her career in the final round of qualifying on Wednesday when she beat former world No.12 and Wimbledon runner-up Sabine Lisicki of Germany 6-3, 6-1 to enter the main draw.
