German tennis player Alexander Zverev pulled out of the 2022 US Open, the grand slam’s Twitter account announced on Monday.

Zverev had injured his right ankle during this year’s Roland Garros semifinal againt Rafael Nadal. The German retired from the contest and has been out of action since.

USA’s Miroslav Kozlov will replace Zverev in the main draw, US Open Tennis confirmed in a statement. The 2022 tournament will be the 24-year-old’s first appearance at the Flushing Meadows.

The 25-year-old was the runner-up in the 2020 edition, while he lost to Novak Djokovic in five sets in the semifinal in 2021.
