Sania Mirza and Peng Shaui were defeated by second seed Martina Hingis and Chan Yung-jan 6-4, 6-4 in the US Open women’s doubles semifinals on Friday.
In the first set, both the teams held their serves to the score 4-4 before Peng’s serve was broke in the ninth game. Chan served out to clinch the first set in 35 minutes.
The fourth seed Mirza-Peng duo came out fighting in the second to take a 3-1 lead before Mirza got broken to love to hand the initiative back to Hingis and Chan. The Swiss-Taiwanese pair carried on the momentum to pull off the second set and the match in their favour.
