Vijay Sundar Prashanth in partnership with Kimmer Coppejans of Belgium was beaten 6-1, 6-4 by Max Purcell and Andrew Whittington of Australia in the doubles pre-quarterfinals of the $75,000 Challenger tennis tournament in Australia on Wednesday.

Vijay had twisted his ankle during the qualifying event of the singles, and thus was unable to be at his best, despite two days of recovery after the injury.

In the ITF women’s event in Turkey, Dhruthi Venugopal moved into the pre-quarterfinals, but double national champion Riya Bhatia bowed out in straight sets.

In the AITA Championship series junior tennis tournament at the CLTA Complex in Chandigarh, top seed Simran Pritam had to fight her way past Vaidehi Rawat 4-6, 6-3, 7-6(2) in the under-16 girls quarterfinals.

Simran made the under-18 semifinals with ease by beating Richa Choudhary for the loss of two games. NImrat Kaur Atwal joined Simran in both the semifinals.

In the boys section, Ajay Singh and Jitin Kumar Chetry made the semifinals of both the under 18 and 16 age groups.
