Ankita Bhambri expressed confidence about the Indian team putting up a good performance in the Fed Cup Asia-Oceania Group-1 tennis event to be staged at the DLTA Complex here from February 7 to 10.

‘’We have the best possible team, except the doubles’’, said Ankita, who was the coach of the women’s team in the Asian Indoor Games.

Sania Mirza had been playing doubles for some time in Fed Cup, especially in the key matches, but has been out with an injury this time.

‘’Ankita Raina and Karman Kaur are strong. They have all been playing very good in the last few weeks’’, said Ankita.

With a strong bunch of teams in the competition like China, Japan, Kazakhstan, Thailand and Korea, the task would be cut out for India, which generally focuses on retaining its place in group-1.

‘’All the teams are going to be tough. We can’t afford to get bogged down by looking at the rankings. Our players need to bring their A-game in every match. Once you do that, anything is possible’’, remarked Ankita.

Elder sister of the country’s best men’s singles player Yuki Bhambri, Ankita said that it was a great opportunity for the leading Indian players to fight as a team, and enjoy the time on and off the court, supporting each other so much that they would cherish it for long and look forward to being together once again.

‘’Your fitness, stamina, the ability to convert the opportunities will all count. You will be playing some of the best players whom you aspire to beat in the circuit. I know that all our players are very dedicated’’, said Ankita.

With the composition of the others teams to be known over the next few days, Ankita said that she would study the teams in due course of time.

‘’If our players are busy with the professional circuit before the tie and play a lot of matches, it would help them be match sharp. They are all very familiar with the conditions in Delhi. If possible, we will try to assemble a few days early and prepare well’’, said Ankita.
