Prime Minister David Cameron was booed at Wimbledon as Andy Murray added another trophy to his cabinet and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge congratulated the British sporting hero after he won a third grand slam title.
Murray produced a magnificent performance on Centre Court, governing Milos Raonic to triumph in his home major for the second time and there were no shortage of famous faces to see his exploits.
The Scot said Cameron, who is set relinquish power later this year after a vote went in favour of leaving the European Union, has "the impossible" job in his on-court interview after the showdown.
Many members of a packed crowd heckled Cameron, but it was all about Murray on Sunday and the likes of Bradley Cooper and Benedict Cumberbatch were in the Royal Box to appreciate his outstanding performance.
Groundstaff were feeling the strain on the final day of a thrilling tournament, while ticket prices soared for Murray's masterclass.
MURRAY CROWNED IN FRONT OF ROYALTY
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, or William and Kate if you prefer, chatted with Murray as he gripped the trophy inside the plush All England Club following his straight-sets victory.
Princess Elizabeth of Yugoslavia was present to see Montenegro-born Canadian Raonic lose his first major final, while Princess Michael of Kent and the Duchess of Gloucester also enjoyed a day at SW19.
MIXED AFTERNOON FOR PM
Prime Minister Cameron lapped up seeing Murray at his brilliant best and the leader of the United Kingdom laughed at the Scot's remarks over the difficulty of his job after some of the crowd gave him a frosty reception. Nicola Sturgeon, First Minister of Scotland, was also in the Royal Box to see her compatriot make those north and south of the border proud once again.
TICKET PRICES GO THROUGH THE ROOF
There was huge demand for tickets to see Murray in his third Wimbledon final and they could have been snapped up for up to £21,000 for a pair for those who are not feeling the pinch of the plummeting value of the pound.
HOLLYWOOD STARS TREATED TO CLASS ACT
Hollywood heart-throbs Cooper and Cumberbatch attracted plenty of attention in the Royal Box as they sat with girlfriend model Irina Shayk and wife Sophie Hunter respectively.
Fellow actor Hugh Grant was also on hand to see Murray, who never looked like fluffing his lines.
RUN INTO THE GROUND
It is by no means just the players who have put in the hard yards in another memorable fortnight in south-west London.
A younger member of the groundstaff looked weary as he revealed the long hours he has put in on the outside courts, pulling the covers on and off time and time again when the rain refused to go away in the first week.
He said some colleagues had been caught nodding off on the job and were sacked, proving if you snooze, you lose.
