Fourth seed Yuki Bhambri beat Jurgen Zopp of Estonia 6-4, 6-2 in the first round of the USD125,000 men’s Challenger tennis tournament in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on Monday. He will play Nikola Mektic of Croatia in the pre-quarterfinals.
However, Yuki and his partner Michael Venus of New Zealand were beaten in the doubles first round by Dudi Sela and Amir Weintraub of Israel 10-6 in the super tie-break.
In the USD50,000 Challenger in Vietnam, qualifier Vijay Sundar Prashanth was beaten 6-4, 7-5 by Matija Pecotic of Croatia in the first round. He won five ATP points for making the main draw. The Wimbledon boys’ doubles champions, Nam Hoang Ly of Vietnam and Sumit Nagal, fought well before losing 6-3, 5-7, 10-6 to Toshihide Matsui and Yasutaka Uchiyama of Japan in the first round.
In the USD10,000 ITF men’s Futures event in Turkey, in which Ramkumar Ramanathan has been seeded No.1, Haadin Bava won three rounds in the qualifying event to make it to the main draw.
