The ticket sales for the inaugural edition of Pro Volleyball League began Monday, with the season scheduled to get underway on February 2. Kochi Blue Spikers and U Mumba Volley will face off in the first match at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Kochi.

The demand for tickets, which have been priced at Rs. 299, for the match between Kochi Blue Spikers and Calicut Heroes on February 9 was particularly high. Fans can avail season passes at a discount of 30 per cent.

Joy Bhattacharjya, the chief executive of the Pro Volleyball League, said, “We are really happy that there is such enthusiasm amongst the volleyball fans in the state. Seeing the interest of the fans in the derby only makes us believe that such enthusiasm will be shown for all the matches of the league. We hope that the first season will prove to be a real hit amongst all the volleyball fans in the country.”

Kochi will host a dozen matches until February 13 before the season moves to Chennai (Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium), where six matches (including the semifinals and final) will be held.

Ahmedabad Defenders, Chennai Spartans, U Mumba Volley, and Black Hawks Hyderabad are the four other teams in the league, which will be played in a round-robin format, with the top four teams qualifying for the semifinals.
