The Indian wrestling team put up a disappointing performance at the ongoing Freestyle World Cup at Los Angeles, going down tamely to hosts USA 1-7 and Iran 0-8 in Group B to bow out of the tournament.

The Indian team lost seven of their eight bouts against the USA, with the lone victory coming in 74kg category, in the opening round and then suffered another humiliating 0-8 whitewash against Iran in the next round.

The likes of Bajrang Punia (61kg), Rajneesh (65kg), Satywart Kadian (97kg), among others, failed to make a mark, losing their respective bouts rather tamely.

While Amit Kumar (57kg) and Hitender (125kg) forfeited their bouts against both USA and Iran.

Praveen Rana was the only Indian who emerged victorious against USA’s Alexander David Dieringer 5-4 in 74kg weight division.

However, the Indians could not win a single bout across all eight categories against the strong Iranian grapplers and crashed out of the two-day event.
