CDR Punjab Royals outclassed Uttar Pradesh Warriors 36-20 to record its first win in the Pro Wrestling League (PWL) at the Guru Nanak Indoor Stadium here on Sunday.
Rajneesh rallied to give Royals an encouraging start by upsetting World championship bronze medallist Ganzorig Mandakhnaran 8-7 in a men's 65kg bout and his team mates carried forward the momentum to help the host bag the first five of the seven bouts in a row. Royals bagged six bouts in all.
Rajneesh, who trailed 0-2 in the first round, launched some swift attacks to level the scores. When the Mongolian tried to regain his lead, the Indian stole six more points through impressive counter-attacks.
Mandakhnaran fought back to narrow the gap, but Rajneesh's tight defence enable him to keep his lead till the end.
In a thrilling men's 74kg bout, Parveen Rana scored the last points against Worlds silver medallist Purevjav Unurbat to emerge as the winner despite a 4-4 scoreline.
