Indian wrestler Seema Bisla secures Tokyo Olympics berth

Seema Bisla earned a 2-1 in over Poland's Anna Lukasiak at the World Olympic Wrestling Qualifiers semifinal, thereby assuring herself of a spot at the Tokyo Olympics.

Indian wrestler Seema Bisla punched her ticket to the Tokyo Olympics as she got the better of Poland's Anna Lukasiak at the World Olympic Wrestling Qualifiers in the 50kg semifinal in Sofia, Bulgaria, on Friday.

Seema edged past European bronze medallist Lukasiak to become the fourth woman wrestler from the country to secure an Olympic slot. The Indian gave away just one passivity point and put up a resolute display to secure the win.

She becomes the second Indian wrestler to earn a Olympics ticket in as many days as Sumit Malik also qualified in the men's 125kg category on Thursday.

Earlier, Seema, an Asian championships bronze medal winner, beat Anastasiya Yanotava of Belarus 8-0 and 2018 Youth Olympics champion Emma Jonna Malmgren of Sweden 10-2 in the quarterfinals to reach the last four.

Nisha Dahiya (68kg) defeated Polish Natalia Strzalka 12-1 before losing to Mimi Hristova of Bulgaria 12-2 in the quarterfinals. Pooja (76kg) lost to Kamile Gaucaite of Lithuania 5-4 in the first round.

Eight Indian wrestlers have qualified for the Olympics - Seema Bisla (50kg), Vinesh Phogat (53kg), Anshu Malik (57kg) and Sonam Malik (62kg), Ravi Kumar Dahiya (57kg), Bajrang Punia (65kg) Deepak Punia (86kg) and Sumit Malik (125kg).
