Sania Mirza loses doubles semifinals in Dubai

Sania Mirza and Barbora Strycova were halted in the semifinals of Dubai Duty Free Championship.

Sania Mirza in partnership with Barbora Strycova of the Czech Republic was beaten 6-4, 6-3 by the second seeds Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina of Russia in the doubles semifinals of the $2,666,000 WTA Tour event in Dubai on Friday.

The semifinal exit fetched the Indo-Czech pair 350 WTA points and $34,880. Sania and partner had earlier avenged the semifinal loss last week in Doha, by beating Abigail Spears and Katarina Srebotnik in straight sets in the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, in the ATP Tour event in Delray Beach, Purav Raja and Divij Sharan were beaten 7-5, 7-5 by the second seeds Raaven Klaasen of South Africa and Rajeev Ram of the US in the doubles semifinals. The Indian pair pocketed $4,730 and 45 ATP points.

The Indian challenge, however, will be sustained by Leander Paes in partnership with Yen Hsun Lu of Chinese Taipei, in their quarterfinals against the top seeds Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan of the U.S..
