Kane Williamson plays a shot in Mumbai on Sunday.

It has been a season to remember for Kane Williamson. The Sunrisers Hyderabad captain has not only been on top of the batting table in this edition of the tournament, but has also become the third-highest run scorer (735) in a season in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

As he reached 46 against Chennai Super Kings in the final of the tournament at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, Williamson achieved the feat — leaving behind Chris Gayle and Michael Hussey.

While Virat Kohli tops the table with 973 runs — he scored in 2016 season for Royal Challengers Bangalore — David Warner amassed 848 in 2016. Both Gayle and Hussey scored 733 in 2012 and 2013 seasons respectively. Williamson, however, was dismissed by Karn Sharma for 47.
